The Eclectic Musings of Ravyncrow

Ramblings based on an entry on my calendar ...

My boss gave me a calendar for Christmas its on my desk. Its one of those dumb things people did and said things where every day has something. Now personally, I think some of the things they claim are dumb, are things I think its dumb to claim as dumb. I mean, citing lyrics of horse with no name as being dumb well, yeah .. its a song, and its supposed to be esoteric, so its kinda dumb to list that as being dumb.

Am I making sense?

At any rate, this is the entry for March 31 this year and I just had to share it:

English writer Malcolm Muggeridge only voted once in his life for a candidate who had been released from an insane asylum with a Certificate of Sanity. What other politician anywhere has an actual medical report that he is sane? Muggeridge asked. I simply had to support him.

Wouldnt it be nice if we could require those for our candidates? Wouldnt it be nicer if, even if we did require it, the certificates couldnt be bought?

*sigh*

Every election year I swear were going to Hell in a handbasket. Every election year we add another handbasket and move a little faster. Our government has become a self-promoting monster, over which we, the people, have little control.

At least thats how it seems to me.

What good is it to vote for someone to vote for someone to vote for someone else, who votes on someone else when everyone votes however theyre feeling at the time anyway, and usually based on who bought them dinner or a car last? Besides, we have the technology now for one man, one vote. So why not just DO that? Are they afraid, like many seem to think, that we arent to be trusted to make our own decisions? Most likely.

Hell, theyre probably right.

How have we gotten ourselves into this? Why do we give away our power? Worse yet, we give it away and then cry because we have no power. Now, personal power thats something we can take back. We can fix that. But when generations have given away their power and the power of their offspring for generations to come, in the name of security, because they dont want the responsibility now THAT makes it difficult. How does a country full of people get their power back, after 2 centuries of letting the government take care of everything, without a revolution or civil war? By just reelecting officials and politicians until we get it right?

Do people even WANT the responsibility that comes with power of any kind? And what about those of us who DO want that power over, and responsibility for, our own lives? What are WE supposed to do? Especially since we are the ones who usually end up caring for the ones who dont want any part of it. This is a reward for being self-sufficient? To be required to take care of those who just wont take responsibility for their own lives?

Somewhere in there someone needs to get down to the basics and figure out how to turn it all around.

Just as long as its not me.

But, of course, you have to agree with me on issues, or youre not the right one for the job. *grin*

I dont want to DO anything, mind you just tell you how YOU should do it.

Guess Im just as bad as everyone else, huh?
